Long gone are the days where I could pick one political party with no questions asked. My family members have always sided with the democrats to an almost extreme point. I did too while I was younger but now, on the first year I will be voting I realize that you can\'t really side with everything one political party does.
Now, even though I couldn\'t vote I was very happy when Obama became president. From all the candidates running that year he seemed to be the only one who made sense to me. He had very good points, wanted to invest in the future, had a plan to help the economy, was very charismatic and overall he just seemed like \"one of the good guys.\" I don\'t doubt that he might still be a good guy but I do question some of his latest decisions.
I will give him some credit for keeping the country from going to where we were during the Hebert Hoover and Roosevelt years(the great depression.) Something like that is the last thing we need here. He did many things and even though some of them failed, like one of the companies he invested in, he still deserves the credit. I\'ve always agreed with the theory that too much money and power corrupts and though I can\'t say for sure that this is what\'s going on with him something just doesn\'t feel right.
He recently passed a law known as the \"NDAA\" which more or less states that they have the right to imprison you on American soil if they merely suspect that you are a terrorist or a threat to the country. There is a common misconception about the law. Most people think it only applies to criminals and terrorists but it is a very \"open\" law that never states it won\'t be used against Americans. The law alone worries me. Does that mean that the country is in THAT much danger? is the country crawling with terrorists? My biggest questions is, will this law be used against protesters? Will they be held \"indefinitely\" as the law states for simply disagreeing? I am a believer of what\'s right before I am anything else and every single cell in my body rejects this law. As an American citizen I feel I will be directly affected by both the law and whoever becomes president. I have never been too interested in politics but maybe I am maturing. One thing I do know is that every vote counts and it counts EVERY TIME. It will always count.
I\'m not saying I\'m a republican now but I am saying that my eyes are wide open and I won\'t help put someone in office before analyzing their whole character and where they stand on the big issues. I\'m looking past what \"political party\" they are in and focusing on what matters. I am urging everyone I know to do the same. The government should only go as far as those governed allow them to. After all, we put them there.
